Your Vehicle’s Safety Systems Rely on Camera Alignment

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) use a camera mounted on the windshield to monitor the road, detect lane markings, and identify obstacles. When the windshield is replaced, the camera’s angle and position relative to the vehicle change slightly — and the system needs to be recalibrated to restore accurate readings.

Lane Departure Warning

Monitors road lane markings through the windshield-mounted camera. Alerts the driver when the vehicle drifts out of its lane without signaling. Camera alignment is critical for accurate lane position readings.

Forward Collision Warning

Detects vehicles and obstacles ahead using the forward camera. Issues visual and audio alerts when a potential collision is detected. Recalibration ensures the camera correctly gauges distance and closing speed.

Automatic Emergency Braking

When a collision is imminent and the driver has not reacted, AEB applies brakes automatically. The windshield camera is the primary sensor. Miscalibration can cause false activations or fail to trigger when needed.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Maintains a set following distance from the vehicle ahead by adjusting speed automatically. Uses camera data combined with radar on many vehicles. Recalibration restores the camera's accurate read of vehicle proximity.

Why recalibration matters: Even a small shift in camera angle — as little as a fraction of a degree — can affect when and how lane departure warnings, emergency braking, and adaptive cruise activate. Recalibration restores the factory-specified camera position so these systems work as designed.

Not Every Windshield Requires It — Camera-Equipped Vehicles Often Do

Vehicles with a forward-facing camera mounted on the windshield often require ADAS recalibration after windshield replacement. If your vehicle has lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, or adaptive cruise control, it likely has this camera. Proset can check your make and model before your appointment.

When Recalibration Is Often Needed
  • Windshield replacement on a vehicle with a forward-facing camera
  • Windshield replacement combined with driver-assist features (lane keep, AEB, adaptive cruise)
  • Impact or vibration that may have shifted the camera mount
  • ADAS warning lights that appear after glass service
  • Camera housing replacement or adjustment
Most ADAS recalibration follows windshield replacement. If you need a new windshield, see Mobile Windshield Replacement for the full process.
What Can Happen If Skipped
  • Lane departure system may alert too early, too late, or not at all
  • Automatic emergency braking may activate in the wrong situations
  • Adaptive cruise may misjudge the distance to vehicles ahead
  • Forward collision warning may miss obstacles or trigger false alarms
  • Vehicle may fail a safety inspection in some states
ADAS systems are safety components. Operating a vehicle with a miscalibrated camera may affect how the vehicle responds in critical situations.
The Process

On-Site Recalibration — No Dealership Required

Proset brings the calibration equipment to you. Most ADAS recalibration is completed the same day as your windshield replacement, at your location.

01
Technician Arrives On-Site

Proset brings all recalibration equipment to your home or office. No dealership trip, no towing. You stay in your day.

02
Pre-Scan for Existing Codes

The technician scans the vehicle's ADAS system for any existing fault codes before recalibration begins, establishing a clear baseline.

03
Static or Dynamic Calibration

Depending on your vehicle's make and requirements, calibration is performed statically (fixed target pattern) or dynamically (driving at low speed). We use the method your vehicle requires.

04
System Verification

After calibration, the technician verifies that ADAS warning lights have cleared and the system is reading correctly. A post-scan confirms no fault codes remain.

05
Service Complete

Work is documented and the vehicle is returned to you. If any issue arises that requires further diagnosis, you'll be told clearly what it is and what the next step would be.

How to Tell If Your Vehicle Has a Camera
  • Your vehicle has lane departure warning, forward collision warning, or automatic emergency braking
  • Your windshield has a small camera bracket or housing mounted near the rearview mirror
  • Your owner's manual mentions camera recalibration after windshield replacement
  • ADAS warning lights appear on your dashboard after glass service
If you’re getting a windshield replaced and aren’t sure whether your vehicle needs recalibration, call us before your appointment. We can look up your vehicle and let you know — no guesswork needed.

ADAS Recalibration — Common Questions

No. Only vehicles with a camera mounted behind the windshield require ADAS recalibration after windshield replacement. If your vehicle has lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, or adaptive cruise control, it likely has this camera. Vehicles without camera-based ADAS systems do not require recalibration after windshield replacement.
Most ADAS recalibration appointments take approximately 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the vehicle and the calibration method required. Static calibration (using a fixed target pattern) and dynamic calibration (a short drive) have different time requirements. When combined with windshield replacement, recalibration is typically completed in the same appointment.
Yes. Proset performs ADAS recalibration on-site at your location across Central Florida. For static calibration, a reasonably flat and open area is needed. For dynamic calibration, a short drive on a clearly marked road is required. Proset will confirm the requirements for your specific vehicle when you book.
Skipping recalibration on a camera-equipped vehicle may cause ADAS systems to behave incorrectly — for example, lane departure alerts triggering at the wrong time, automatic emergency braking activating unexpectedly, or forward collision warning failing to detect obstacles accurately. Because these are safety systems, Proset recommends performing recalibration for any vehicle that requires it.
Check whether your vehicle has any of these features: lane departure warning or lane keep assist, forward collision warning or automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, or traffic sign recognition. If so, your vehicle likely has a windshield-mounted camera. You can also look for a small camera housing near the top center of your windshield behind the rearview mirror. Call Proset and we can check your make, model, and year before your appointment.
Coverage varies by policy. Some comprehensive policies cover ADAS recalibration when performed as part of a windshield replacement claim. Others cover only the glass itself. Proset recommends contacting your insurance provider to confirm whether recalibration is included in your claim. If needed, Proset can document the recalibration service for your records.
Recalibration addresses camera-based ADAS systems including: lane departure warning and lane keep assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, traffic sign recognition, and driver attention monitoring. Radar-based systems (used in parallel with the camera on some vehicles) may require separate calibration by the dealership in some cases.
Static calibration is performed with the vehicle parked and a precise calibration target positioned in front of the camera at a specified distance and height. Dynamic calibration requires driving the vehicle at a set speed on a road with clear lane markings while the system calibrates itself using real-world data. Some vehicles require one method, some require the other, and some require both. Proset uses the method specified for your vehicle.
